Chancellor’s Circle – Autumn 2018

Alumni Relations
Thursday 1 November 2018

The Chancellor’s Circle was founded in November 2011 to recognise and thank those generous alumni and friends who have chosen to remember the University of St Andrews in their will during their lifetime.

We hold two annual events (one in Scotland and one in the south of England) to celebrate the contribution of this remarkable group of people. The second event of 2018 was held at Lower College Hall on Saturday 20 October.

Over 70 alumni and friends of the University joined the Chancellor, Lord Campbell of Pittenweem for afternoon tea.

Student musicians from the Music Centre took time out of rehearsals for their concert with the University Chamber Orchestra and Fitzwilliam Quartet to provide the entertainment. Legacies have played a major part in enabling the new Laidlaw Music Centre to be built and many donors and legators have, in addition, chosen to support talented performers like these by contributing to Music Scholarships.

Guests then heard from Miss Laura Houston, Admissions Education Liaison Officer, about the ways that scholarships are supporting our admissions programmes and enhancing the experience of many of our students. Four current scholars described to guests exactly how such scholarships have transformed their lives.

We are hoping to widen the impact of our message by increasing membership of the Chancellor’s Circle and introducing Circle members and interested donors and friends to some of the other wonderful projects that planned giving could help the University to achieve.

If you are considering your future plans, October and November are a good time to do so, since many charities and solicitors will help you to prepare your will for free.

We are always delighted to welcome more members to this special group.
