Wardlaw Museum: CultureAtHome

Alumni Relations
Friday 20 March 2020

The University and the Museums team are so disappointed to have had to postpone opening the Wardlaw Museum, but even though we can’t welcome you into our buildings at the moment, the Museums have not closed.

Dr Catherine Eagleton
Director of Museums

The Museums team are working to reimagine university museums through curiosity and conversation, and to be a cultural and social hub. So, in the coming weeks, we will bring people together online, to stay connected to St Andrews, to take inspiration from the ground-breaking research at this world-leading University. We want to share joy, hope, fun and relief through our extraordinary art, history, science and natural history collections, with our St Andrews community all over the world.

Whether you need a moment of calm, an in-depth story of life-changing research, a glimpse of another place or another culture or a fun-filled activity for the kids, the Museums will have something for you.

Our collections are full to the brim with objects that have interesting stories to tell… whether you are looking for light touch ‘storytelling’, an academic blog or article, or just want to browse our amazing collections online.

For those of you with children to entertain at home, look out for our #WardlawWorkshops on a Monday, where we’ll supply you with a mission for the week ahead and advice from an expert at the University of St Andrews to help you complete it. From creating secret messages like the ancient Incas to building your own flying machines, we’ll keep them busy. For the even harder to distract wee ones, our ever popular Wee Wardlaws session for under 5s is also going digital, bringing you rhymes, stories, activities and crafts inspired by our collections every Friday.

A ‘Wee Wardlaws’ session

We think culture helps in times like these – that is why we are also working closely together with the Byre Theatre, the Laidlaw Music Centre, and the University Library to bring you Culture At Home – a regular dose of performance, pictures, poetry or podcasts, from the University of St Andrews or recommended for you by our cultural experts.

Whether you are stuck at home, taking care of someone else, or feeling worried about what is going on, it is important to stay connected, to culture, to St Andrews and to each other.
