St Andrews Renaissance Group/Singers 65th Anniversary

Alumni Relations
Thursday 2 July 2020

Dear former members of St Andrews Ren Group, now known as St Andrews Renaissance Singers or STARS,

I am writing in my capacity as co-chair of the STARS Committee to let you know a little bit about our upcoming online celebrations to mark our 65th anniversary in September 2020 (we plan to hold in person celebrations in September 2021!) and to invite you to submit a short video or set of videos for inclusion in our online events.

On the evenings of 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th September 2020, we shall release a short video based around a different area of the choir’s story.  On the evening of 27th September, we invite you to sing along with us in an online performance of Palestrina’s Alma Redemptoris Mater.  These and other “events” will take place on our dedicated website, currently under construction, which will be available soon here: https://standrewsrenaissancesingers.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk/

We hope that you will join us online for these events and would like to invite you to submit a short video or set of videos to be included as part of the nightly releases, which will be on the following themes:

  1. History of the Choir (please send a video clip with your memories and information to the current director, Jill Craig on [email protected])
  2. Why Renaissance Music? (please send a video clip outlining why you enjoy singing Renaissance music to me, Julia Prest, on [email protected])
  3. Robert Carver (please send a video clip with your memories/experiences of singing Carver to Jill Craig – as above)
  4. Student Experiences of the Choir (please send a video clip with your memories and information to Vicky Turner, on [email protected])

Videos should last no longer than 40 seconds each and can be recorded on Teams, Zoom, Panopto etc. or on your mobile ‘phone.  If they are under 50MB, they can be emailed to us directly; otherwise, please send them to us via WeTransfer or similar. The deadline for video submissions is Friday 10 July 2020. Please note that by sending us your videos, you are consenting to their inclusion in the videos that will appear on our website in September 2020.

We look forward to sharing our enjoyment of Renaissance music and STARS together!

All good wishes,

Julia
